ABOUT

3 SHORT SONGS ON THE POEMS OF MICHELLE BRITTAN

Three short movements setting the poetry of Michelle Brittan.

I. The Final Season

In the final season of our neglect

the leaves gathered on the balcony

and the rain filled the room where we slept.

II. Poem Arriving at Dusk

At low tide, it’s a long way

to walk to the water.

The path of sand grows dark.

III. The Last Exile

Soprano Allie Tyler performs a reading of the third movement, The Last Exile

The heart rehearses its own departure

a door closing

over and over.

Instrumentation

Soprano, tenor, piano
