ABOUT

CONCERT WALLS

Concert Walls was written in collaboration with Clairobscur Dance Company. The piece is scored for synthesizers, cello, electric guitar, and percussion. Synths include analog, digital, modular, and keyboard, and are all hardware synths; the percussion includes found object instruments, such as buckets, rusted metal, cans, and pails.
The piece is a site-specific one, choreographed around the entire eastern side of Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, CA. As the dancers move throughout the space, the audience is invited to walk with them to experience the work. The musicians are also spaced out along this path; this came with a number of interesting challenges, chief among them being the inability for players to see each other during performance. The music was amplified and each musician played with a monitor speaker in order to hear the other instrumental parts.
Concert Walls premiered on July 24th, 2018, with subsequent performances on July 25th, July 30th, and August 1st.
