Memory Lapse explores ideas of memory loss and how we cope with it in our own relationships. Choreographer Laurie Sefton, who leads the Los Angeles-based modern dance company Clairobscur, worked closely with Bryan to develop a combination of pop and chamber music that helped to tell the narrative story of the piece. Thematic materials and motives that are specific to certain instruments in the ensemble support characters and dancers throughout the piece; these elements are tied to certain choreographic movements within the work, and both change and develop as the piece progresses.
